There are several ways to get to Bendigo South East Secondary College depending on where you live: walking, riding, by bus or by car.

For those families that reside within Bendigo, DoT’s Bendigo Town Transit Service provides travel to the College from within Bendigo city and surrounding suburbs.

The Department of Education and Training’s (DET) School Bus Program (SBP) assists rural and regional families by transporting students to school. These country school buses are used by families who reside outside of the Bendigo city. These services are NOT public transport services and are not for use by students without authorisation or for the purpose other than being transported to and from school.

Public Transport

For those families that reside within the Bendigo Public Transport System area, this will allow for you to travel to BSE whether by regular timetabled services or School Town Specials.

The main School Special bus to BSE departs from Bay 8 at The Bendigo Railway Station on school days at 8:35am. (Subject to change)

To access this system you need to obtain a MYKI card, which you can buy from PTV Hub in the Marketplace or refer to this link.

Department of Transport offers many public transport options including:

• Bendigo Town Transit Service – run by Christians Bus Company and provides travel to the College using either the regular timetabled services. For more information on town services please click here.
• Bendigo School Town Specials (STS) – run by Christians Bus Company, STSs operate within school times only, in areas where regular town services do not meet school time requirements. For more information on STS’s please contact Christians Bus Company on 03 5443 9333.
• Strathfieldsaye’s Route 70 – run by Whitmores Bus Lines. Please click here for timetable information. Families living in Strathfieldsaye now have access to public transport to the College on DoT Route 70 service. This service drops off/ picks up at the College on Curtain Street.

To access public transport you need to obtain a MYKI card and a School Student ID card, which you can buy through DoT’s HUB located at the Bendigo Marketplace by completing this form.

Conveyance Claim Allowance – Public Transport Travel

If you reside further than 4.8km from this College and it is your closest government school, you may be eligible to claim conveyance allowance for the reimbursement of the Bendigo Student Bus pass ie MyKi card. Please see this link or contact the College for further information.

The Department’s School Bus Program (SBP) Country Services

The Department of Education and Training’s School Bus Program policy provides the framework for country school bus travel.  For families who reside in rural areas and wish to travel by bus, the SBP country services may assist.  Applications are made via DoT’s online School Bus Management System (SBMS).  Click here for more information.

To be eligible for free government travel on a country bus, you must reside more than 4.8km of your nearest school (of the same denomination and year level offering ie government, non-government etc) and NOT have access to public transport within 1.6km of your residence.

If you are bypassing your nearest school of the same denomination and year level offering, and you wish to apply for travel on a country bus, you will be deemed ineligible for free travel and must pay a fare of $120 per term before being granted approval for travel.  This approval is deemed conditional and is reviewed each term with priority access given to eligible student travellers, and those with prior rights.

DoT’s School Bus Management System (SBMS) – Travel on country services

In January 2019, DoT launched the new online School Bus Management System (SBMS) in the Bendigo network.  All pre-existing student travellers were transferred across to the new system and all new travellers are now required to apply for travel on the SBP network via SBMS.

SBMS now manages the administration of country buses, applying the Department’s School Bus Program policy including managing payments of term fares.

Orientation/ Transition Day Information

For rural students requiring country bus travel for the purpose of Orientation/Transition Day, and who DO NOT have access to public transport, a request for Adhoc Travel can be made.  Applications are made using an Adhoc Travel form (click here) and must be submitted at least 24 hours BEFORE travel is required.

If travel is approved, a bus pass and all travel information will be issued to the family, for the student to present on the day of travel.
