PRINCIPAL’S WELCOME

At Bendigo South East College, our core purpose is to serve the needs of all our students by providing a high-quality, inclusive education that prepares them for success both now and into the future. In alignment with the vision of the Bendigo Education Plan, we are committed to ensuring every young person in our care feels connected to their learning, confident in their choices, and supported to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

We understand that strong educational outcomes begin with strong foundations – academic, social, and emotional. We prioritise the preconditions for learning across our school through the consistent use of School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) and the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM). These frameworks guide our approach to building safe, predictable, and inclusive learning environments where every student can feel ready to engage, learn and grow.

We know that successful transitions into future pathways begin with strong educational and wellbeing foundations. That’s why our work is grounded in a deep understanding of our learners – who they are, what they need, and what they aspire to become. We offer a broad and engaging curriculum supported by experienced educators and a strong culture of care, inclusion and high expectations.

Our specialised programs, including the Athlete Development Program (ADP) and Academy of Creative Arts (ACA), are a point of pride at BSE. They reflect our commitment to fostering talent and passion, whether in sport, the arts, or beyond. These programs provide students with unique opportunities to excel and connect with their interests, and form an important part of our broader offerings.

But we also understand that a school is more than its individual programs. Our mission is to support all aspirations within our diverse student body. We do this through advanced VCE offerings, VET subjects, and a growing array of pathway options that connect students to university, supported HEADSTART school based apprenticeships, training, or employment. We work to ensure that every student has access to a personalised, supported learning journey that reflects their strengths and goals.

As Principal, I am proud of the way our staff work together to build a safe, inclusive and dynamic learning environment where students can become resilient, curious, and community-minded young adults. We know that every learner is different, and we are committed to providing the individualised support, challenge, and encouragement they need to achieve their best.

Importantly, we value the partnership between school and family. Strong, open communication with parents and carers is vital to ensuring every student feels supported and seen. Together, we can build a shared culture that values learning, wellbeing, and long-term success.

At Bendigo South East College, we want every student to be able to say with confidence, as articulated in the Bendigo Education Plan: “I attend and like school. It supports me to learn. My family supports my attendance and participation. I succeed in learning. My pathway choices are informed, and I am equipped to succeed in life.”

This is our shared promise and our commitment to every learner we serve.
