Strong NAPLAN Results

Strong NAPLAN Results

From the College – Friday 27th August 2021

The incredible resilience and hard work of Victorian educators, students and families has been reflected in the remarkable results for this year’s NAPLAN tests. NAPLAN results were released this week, with Victorian schools demonstrating improvement, despite the challenges of remote learning.

The Department of Education stated on their website “Victoria has held the top spot as the highest-performing jurisdiction on seven out of ten measures in the primary school years. Our Year 3 and Year 5 numeracy results were the highest in the country.”

“Year 7 students achieved the highest scores of any jurisdiction for the foundation skills of Reading and Numeracy, and our Year 9 students achieved the highest scores for Spelling.”

The pleasing formance of the Year 9 cohort was also celebrated. “For the first time, almost 19,000 Year 9 students are receiving certificates to recognise their excellence or significant learning growth on their Year 7 NAPLAN results.”

The College is extremely proud of our Year 7 and Year 9 students who took part in the NAPLAN testing this year. The College will receive individual student results next week and will be distributed. Tune in to next week’s Essence News to read more about BSE’s data.

BSE Dragons – Update on Athletics Carnivals

BSE Dragons - Update on Athletics Carnivals

By Mr David Flint – BSE Sports Coordinator – Friday 10th September 2021

State Championships and State Finals – Cancelled

Due to the current state wide restrictions, uncertainty of students returning to school in Term 4 and the challenges with postponing events until later in the year, School Sport Victoria wishes to advise that the SSV State Secondary Track and Field Championships scheduled for Monday October 18th has been cancelled.

Sandhurst Secondary Athletics Carnival – Postponed

The Sandhurst Athletics Carnival previously rescheduled date of Friday September 10th has been postponed, so with the above SSV State Secondary Track and Field Championships now being officially cancelled, that cancellation might actually allow us further opportunity to proceed with our Sandhurst Athletics Carnival in October/November.

This will depend on the return to school arrangements for Term 4, including advice on the resumption of interschool sport, restrictions on Interschool sport provision, venue capacity and density limits (particularly for larger events), and access to facilities, officials and event staff.

College community asks R U OK

College community asks R U OK

By Mr Matthew Evans – Communications & Promotions – Friday 10th September 2021

R U OK Day was acknowledged across the nation on Thursday. It’s an important day which the BSE Community is getting behind where we strive for a world where we’re all connected and are protected from suicide.

R U OK’s mission is to inspire and empower people to meaningfully connect with those in their world and lend support when they are struggling with life. This week, the Year 10 VCAL Students and the Student Support Centre have researched, prepared, and provided information for students for R U OK Day, from how to start a conversation to scenarios of how to approach a conversation.

We encourage everyone in the community to get in contact with their friends and family and ask if they are ok. It’s ok not to be ok, and we must always ask how people are going each and every day.
