Last Friday, Bendigo South East College attended Indigenous Careers Day at Bendigo Senior Secondary College, an enriching experience for students. The event was a vibrant platform for students to explore diverse career opportunities and receive invaluable advice from industry professionals across Bendigo.

A standout moment of the day was the presence of Mitch Tambo, a celebrated Gamilaraay man, whose inspiring blend of culture, music, and motivational speaking captivated the students. Mitch shared his personal journey from the regional settings of New South Wales to achieving national recognition. He discussed the hurdles he overcame and the relentless determination he maintained throughout his journey. His emphasis on resilience, the importance of community support, and the transformative power of education struck a chord with the students, motivating them to chase their own aspirations with vigor and persistence.

The event featured numerous stalls, each presenting a unique facet of professional life. These included opportunities in healthcare, land care, ambulance services, engineering, law enforcement, the medical field, and higher education pathways. Additionally, local Indigenous professionals from these various sectors shared their career experiences, offering students firsthand insights into the realities and rewards of their respective fields.

Thank you to all the participants, organisers, and especially to Mitch Tambo for making the Indigenous Careers Day a profound success. Events like these are crucial in broadening young horizons and reinforcing the importance of ambition and educational engagement. Thank you to everyone involved for inspiring our students and helping shape their futures.
