BSE VET Hospitality Class Visit Life Essentials Op Shop
On Wednesday the 13th May, Year 10 VET Hospitality class visited Life Essentials Op Shop in Hargreaves Street. This shop is different as it runs a Cafe as well as many other things. As a class studying hospitality we were very interested in seeing how the Cafe operated.
When we arrived we had some time to look around the store and do some shopping of our own. Matt Parkiinson, the director took us upstairs to their multipurpose space to have a chat. He talked about what they do there and what they are wanting to achieve. Some of the programs the facility offers are: English lessons for refugees, a cleaning business for Karen people and counselling services.
The organisation is working to 'Make a Difference and Change Our World' which is fitting because the Cafe was named the 'Mad Cow Cafe'. Matt gave us a brief overview of the process they went through to get approval from the Council allowing them to go through with their plans.
Overall it was a good excursion and the class got a glance at what it is like to start and operate your own cafe first hand.
Thanks to Matt and the team from Life Essentials Op Shop for sharing their knowledge and time with us. I'm sure that we all know its there and we will be back in sometime soon.
