Today the Year 7 Boys Cricket team played in the Loddon Mallee Regional finals. They faced their opposition from Rochester after Captain Wil McCaig won the toss and elected to bat.
The openers were off to a flyer with 36 runs off the first 7 overs. But wickets fell Connor Sheppard (6), Darcy Radford (3), and Will Purcell (12), which left the Dragons team in disarray. Captain Wil McCaig tried to get the team back into the game but fell shortly on 11.
This collapse brought Reece Yarwood and Riley Bullock to the crease, but both shortly went out.- Yarwood (9) and Bullock (5). The saviours, Tom Martian and Matt Floyd went in and set a defendable score of 98, which meant Rochester had to make 99 to claim victory.
The dragons then went into bowl, but wicket-keeper Darcy Redford dropped a catch off Will Purcell’s bowling which left the team disappointed. But the next ball Darcy Radford was resilient and got a sneaky stumping which surprised the whole team.
The Dragons bowling quickly fell away and Rochester were, ‘a shoe in’ to win the game. The coaching team and captain decided to bring on Riley Bullock who took a terrific 4 wickets, which brought the team back in the game. After this terrific spell, Rochester had minimal chance of chasing the 99 and collapsed to fall short on 84 runs. This meant victory to the year 7 boys.
The boys were ecstatic with the result and celebrated happily on the bus.
